Ocean City was ranked as New Jersey's Best
Beach overall as announced today at the
seventh annual State of the Shore Media
Event held in Sandy Hook.
City topped this year's list as best beach
as determined by voters and coastal
scientists. Voting began in February and
included several categories. Ocean
City also received top honors for Best
Beach for Day Trips and Ecotourism.
Mayor Sal Perillo stated, "We are honored to
receive this designation and proud of our
seven-mile stretch of safe, clean beaches.
We welcome everyone to come and see for
themselves why we are known as America's
Greatest Family Resort."
The City has made many improvements recently
that attract day trippers in addition to a
multi-million dollar beach replenishment
effort, including aesthetic enhancements to
the boardwalk and downtown improvements.
The City hosts a wide assortment of free
events that attract crowds including Night
in Venice and the Baby Parade, which is
celebrating its 100th anniversary
City has also continued to be a leader in
ecotourism by enhancing public access to the
bay, extending bike paths throughout the
City and establishing a wide array of
